Steam-Powered iStills!

What’s new?

We are adding steam power to the iStill suite! Distillers and – especially – brewers, that already have a steam generator, can now use it to power their iStills.

Anything revolutionary?

Yeah, a few things. Traditionally, steam generators are used with indirectly heated, double boiler, “Au bain, Marie!”-stills. We don’t like indirect heating, because it prevents the Maillard Reaction from taking place. And as a craft distiller, competing on flavor and quality, you want access to that 25% flavor booster.

The iStill Steam Heating System therefore uses our innovative direct heater design for more control over vapor speeds, faster response times, faster heat-up, improved energy efficiency, and the potential to manage the Maillard Reaction via the (optional) agitator system.

Furthermore, the relatively low steam temperature also helps at preventing potential scorching. In other words: our innovative heat-exchanger design offers direct heating performance with indirect heating wash protection performance.

Finally, we integrated the steam supply – and therefore power supply – into the iStill PLC. What that means? That you have total control over power settings and vapor speeds and the associated flavor composition of the spirits you are producing. Automated? You bet. Over the air updates? Yes, that as well. All the advantages any iStill distillery offers, are now available for existing steam powered breweries and distilleries. Without them having to re-invest in more electrical power.

Soligny Wins Best Brown Spirit Award!

Soligny Campagne Spirit is a grain to glass distillery from France. They make whisky from in-house grown barley. Veronique and Vincent, the owners, are amazing entrepreneurs. Amazing and successful entrepreneurs! Their whisky to be just got elected best brown spirit at the Vinexposium in Paris, France. A great and well-deserved reward for all of their hard work! “Fresh and deep aromas gently greet the nose. It has a suggestion of an elegant smooth and silky palate to come, with some citrus, vanilla pods and distant nutmeg, black pepper, freshly baked bread and spring flowers. There’s a definite whipped cream scent and touch of fine coconut.

Extremely smooth and round on the palate with no heat at all. It stays cool and refreshing with a lovely touch of richness balanced by some soft citrus notes. Complex and well composed, round and elegant. Definitely great to sip on its own or to be enjoyed on-the-rocks or as a dry vodka martini but it is so nicely balanced between aromas and flavours that it can work in many classic long drinks and a great range of cocktails too.

The finish is long and there’s a touch of vanilla and coconut mingling with the lovely citrus notes. An excellent example of a beautifully crafted wheat vodka with a mouth coating soft texture.”

What is it?

The iStill Nano is a little potstill with a one liter gross capacity. We designed it to give our customers the tools to run their consumer oriented gin, rum, whisky and brandy schools professionally. Not with just any tools, but with iStill tools.

The unit is very easy to operate, and allows your visitors to make their own gin or rum, whisky or brandy at your distillery, swiftly, effectively, and safely. Put in 0.75 liters of wine or beer or vodka. Add herbs to your liking. Within the hour, the iStill Nano will help make a bottle of freshly distilled, personalized spirits.

Features?

The iStill Nano is made out of high-grade stainless steel and is constructed to last! The boiler and column and cooler are made from 2 mm thick sheets, while the bottom is a whopping 4 millimeters.

The unit comes with an easy to bolt on, tri-clamp riser/lyne-arm/cooler with easy connects for cooling water in and out.

The iStill Nano comes with a dedicated 500 Watt hotplate and a power manager for 0 to 100% power regulation. In the smallest, incremental steps possible.

The iStill nameplate can be replaced by your nameplate or logo, at a small price increase.

Also included is the all-new Bluetooth thermometer probe. It measures your gas temperatures every second and relays the signal to the new iStill App.

App?

Indeed. For your convenience we designed an App. What it does? Well, first of all, it tells you at what temperature you are distilling … and so much more!

  • You can upload recipes for gin, whisky, rum, and brandy;
  • You can perform your own run and save the recipe for later use;
  • The app informs you when to cut for Heads, Hearts, and Tails;
  • Temperatures and cut points are automatically adjusted for air pressure on a per second basis;
  • Ensuring your customers can make the same high-quality drup over and over again!
